Manufacturer: Ranbaxy
Pharmaceutical name: Ciprofloxacin
Pack: 5 pills (1000 mg)
Cifran OD is utilized for the treatment of bacterial infections. It serves as a synthetic broad-spectrum antibacterial agent designed for oral consumption. The active ingredient in Cifran OD is Ciprofloxacin. This medication is also indicated for preventing or slowing down anthrax post-exposure.
Adults typically receive an initial dosage of 250 mg twice a day. For severe or combined infections, the dosage for adults increases to 500 mg twice daily. The duration of Cifran OD treatment ranges from 7 to 14 days, depending on the patient's improvement. In cases of acute abscess, pneumonia, endocarditis, and central osteitis, a dosage of 750 mg is recommended twice a day. The treatment course for Cifran OD can extend from 4 to 6 weeks. For gonorrhea, a single dose of 250 mg is prescribed. Children under 15 years are not prescribed Cifran OD.
It is important not to skip any doses. If you do miss a dose of Cifran OD, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, omit the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. Never take two doses at once.
Avoid using Cifran OD if you are allergic to any of its components or to other fluoroquinolones (such as levofloxacin), if you have recently had a live oral typhoid vaccination, or if you are taking cisapride or tizanidine. Reach out to your doctor or healthcare provider immediately if any of these situations apply to you.
Common side effects may arise from the digestive system, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Other less pronounced side effects can include dizziness, fatigue, sleep disturbances, nightmares, and tachycardia. None of these side effects are considered life-threatening. Generally, when following the guidelines for Ciprofloxacin use, side effects last no longer than two days. Should side effects persist, consult a physician.
Improvements in symptoms should be noticeable within 24 hours of starting the antibiotic. Seek medical attention if symptoms do not improve or worsen, or if any of the following occur: severe diarrhea and vomiting that leads to dehydration, blood or green/yellow mucus in stools accompanied by intense abdominal pain, diarrhea coupled with rashes, or high fever and headache along with diarrhea (especially in malaria-endemic areas).
